Market Day / DÃa del Mercado
A young girl momentarily covers her eyes while selling tlayudas – a corn tortilla that is a staple of their diet – at the weekly market in Tlacolula, Oaxaca. NAFTA policies took away peasant farmer’s land for agri-business and flooded the Mexican market with cheap U.S. goods including corn, gravely limiting Mexicans ability to grow or afford food. Some studies show that one out of every three tortillas in Mexico is made out of imported corn.
